What Does It Cost to Ship 10kg to the US? A Line-by-Line Cost Breakdown
A complete breakdown of shipping 10kg to the US: chargeable weight, base freight, category uplift, surcharges and minimum charge — with worked examples for each channel.
The Short Answer
For a 10kg general-goods shipment from Shenzhen to the US, our reference rates look like this:
| Channel | Reference rate |
|---|---|
| Economy postal packet | ≈¥365 |
| US dedicated line parcel | ≈¥465 |
| International express | ≈¥975 |
Rates are references computed from the current price list; your advisor confirms the final number.
How the Cost Is Built Up
- Chargeable weight. Compare actual weight and volumetric weight (L × W × H ÷ divisor) and bill the greater. A 10kg dense shipment usually bills on actual weight.
- Base freight. Unit rate per kg depends on the weight tier — rates decline as weight rises (under 2kg, 2-10kg, 10-21kg, over 21kg).
- Category uplift. Battery and sensitive goods carry roughly 15% uplift over general goods.
- Surcharges. Fuel surcharge (a percentage of freight), remote-area surcharge (ZIP-based), and handling fee.
- Minimum charge. Very light shipments are billed at the per-shipment minimum.
Worked Example
A 10kg carton, 50×40×30cm, general goods, US dedicated line:
- Volumetric weight: 50 × 40 × 30 ÷ 6000 = 10kg — equal to actual, so 10kg bills either way
- Base freight: 10kg × ¥43/kg ≈ ¥430
- Handling fee: ¥35
- Estimated total: ≈¥465
How to Pay Less
- Raise density: fill the carton rather than shipping air.
- Stay within a weight tier edge: 10.9kg vs 11.1kg can straddle a tier break.
- Time-insensitive, low-value goods go economy postal — no volumetric billing at all.
